January 2026 Transparency Report

A Note From Shay

This month was an exciting month for us, having launched in Beta in December, we started to see feedback trickle in from our beta testers, of which has been very positive, and has helped us in identifying some big holes in features that our community needs - so we really appreciate testers for that!

We are also in full launch preparing mode, so a lot of moving parts, such as getting content created for social medias, advertisements setup and the lot!

We've started to also see traction from our great team at BrandsBuiltRight who handle our video production, they've been stellar in helping to build our content backlog and manage our videos!

Are you looking forward to the launch of Obsidian Servers?

Uptime & Incidents

Monthly Uptime: 99.40% (Calculated each month on a rolling 90 day period)

Incident: Router Issues

Date: 29th Jan 2026 Duration: 1 Hour Impact: GER-1 Connectivity Issues

What happened: Our provider had a core router failure which affected how traffic got routed through their network and as such it affected connections to our GER-1 node.

What we did: N/A

What we're doing to prevent this: We are working with our provider to install additional failover routing capabilities to prevent such an occurrence from happening again in the future.

Incident: SSL Expiry on SQL Admin Server

Date: 14th Jan 2026 Duration: 4 Days Impact: SQL Management Panel

What happened: Our SSL certificate expired on our SQL management panel, as such it reported as offline due to there not being a 200 request returned. There was no actual downtime caused by this as you could still access the SQL management panel.

What we did: We renewed the SSL certificate.

What we're doing to prevent this: We have setup alerting for when our SSL certificates are due to expire (30 days notice) along with installing scripts to automatically update SSL certificate issuance on servers.

Decisions We Made

Launch Date

This gives us more time to prepare for launch.

Beta Program Insights

We ran our closed beta from December 20th, 2025 through January 2026, inviting a small group of testers to stress-test our platform and provide honest feedback. Here's what we learned.

What Testers Loved

Server Performance - Mentioned by 75% of testers

Our servers consistently impressed testers with stability, minimal lag, and strong single-core CPU performance. Multiple testers noted they could run 40+ plugins without issues.

"The servers ran fantastic! Even with the low amount of RAM, I never ran into an issue with performance no matter how demanding my code got." - Shane L.

"It was genuinely one of the best server hosts I have seen, even paid ones like Modrinth don't run this well." - Siwoo B.

Support Quality - Mentioned by 50% of testers

Fast response times and genuinely helpful staff stood out. Testers appreciated that we answered questions personally - even the simple ones.

"The support provided on Discord was fantastic. Your staff was involved, engaged, and quick to look into issues and answer questions. Even silly questions... your staff stepped in to answer those questions personally, thoughtfully, and professionally." - Shane L.

"The team is great and quick on fixing things - after like 10 or so bugs the servers worked perfectly." - Lleyton P.

Panel Experience - Mentioned by 42% of testers

Testers found the panel intuitive and appreciated that we didn't just copy-paste a generic Pterodactyl setup. Features like core selection, modpacks, and version management were highlights.

"Your game panel was also very intuitive and easy to use. It was not only familiar, utilizing the standard Pterodactyl panel, but was also not a copy and paste of other panels. It had character, represented your brand." - Shane L.

Included Features - Mentioned by 25% of testers

Free DDoS protection, multiple subdomains, and easy port management were called out as valuable extras that competitors often charge for.

"Amazing free features such as over 5 custom subdomains, DDoS protection and easy port management." - Alexander B.

The plugin installer was far and away the most requested feature - 67% of testers mentioned it. We're happy to say that shipped this month, along with mod installer and resource pack hosting!

The Honest Critiques

We asked testers to tell us what they didn't like. Here's what they said:

"The cost of the service is a lot - there are many other hostings which offer almost the same performance at a lower cost." - Smaran S.

"When I first opened it, it was rather confusing to me. I couldn't figure out how to open the server control panel." - Alexander B.

"I honestly dislike that there isn't a plugin adder on the hosting? Every other hosting does that." - Grace L.

We're taking the pricing feedback seriously as we scale - our goal is to offer competitive pricing while maintaining the quality and support that testers loved.

Bug Reports & Fixes

Our beta testers helped us squash several bugs, most notably:

  • Server Cleanup Bug - One tester's server was incorrectly flagged for cleanup due to our billing system not detecting applied credits. Fixed same day and safeguards added.
  • Discord Bot Issues - Various quirks with our ticketing bot were identified and resolved thanks to tester reports.
  • Sign-up Issues - Early testers experienced problems with the sign-up flow which were quickly resolved.

A huge thank you to everyone who reported issues - your patience while we fixed things made the platform better for everyone.

Tester Locations & Payment Methods

Our beta testers came from all over the world, which helped us test our international payment capabilities:

  • United States - PayPal
  • Canada - PayPal
  • India - UPI
  • Ukraine - PayPal (after IBAN issues)
  • Hungary - Bank Transfer (IBAN)
  • South Korea - PayPal
  • Philippines - PayPal

We processed payouts via PayPal, Wise bank transfers, and UPI - learning a lot about international payments along the way!

Key Takeaway

The beta confirmed what we hoped: our core product is solid. Performance and support are genuine strengths. The gaps were in convenience features (plugin installer, navigation, resource packs) rather than fundamentals - and we've already shipped fixes for the biggest ones.

A 75% feedback completion rate and 42% of testers choosing to stay with account credit tells us we're building something people want to use.

We're heading into launch with confidence, thanks to the honest feedback from our testers.

Looking Ahead

We're excited to be pushing towards launching Obsidian Servers and setting a new standard for the industry and customers for what they should expect from a hosting company!
