Understanding Minecraft Server Types
Plugin Servers
Paper, Spigot, and Purpur are optimized Minecraft servers that support plugins. Paper offers the best performance with async chunk loading and extensive optimizations. Purpur adds extra configuration options and features on top of Paper. Pufferfish and Folia are experimental forks designed for even better multi-threaded performance.
Mod Loaders
Forge and NeoForge are the most popular mod loaders for large modpacks. Fabric is a lightweight alternative that's faster to update and preferred for performance mods. Choose based on which mods you want to run.
Hybrid Servers
