A Note From Shay
This is not an easy post to write. After a lot of thought, I have decided to close Obsidian Servers. Your servers will keep running as normal until 31 December 2026, and support stays open until then too.
To everyone who hosted with us, sent feedback, reported bugs, or just hung out in the Discord: thank you. It has been a privilege to host your worlds.
What This Means for You
Your servers stay online until 31 December 2026
Nothing changes for your server today. It will keep running, and you can still use the panel, your files, and your backups as normal until the shutdown date.
Your service is free until the shutdown
From the date of this post (4 November 2026), you will not pay anything more for your server. We will not send new invoices or take any more renewal payments, and your server stays online until 31 December 2026.
If you have an open invoice, you do not need to pay it. If you set up an automatic payment or subscription with a payment provider (for example PayPal), you can cancel it now.
Refunds for plans paid in advance
If you pay quarterly, semi-annually or annually, and your current paid period ends after 31 December 2026, we will refund the part of your last payment that covers 1 December 2026 onwards.
We work it out by the day. For example, if you paid $100 for a year that runs until 1 July 2027, 212 of those 365 days are from 1 December 2026 onwards, so you get back about $58.08.
You do not need to ask for this refund. We will contact you by email when we send it. If you have a question about your refund, please open a support ticket.
No new orders
We have stopped taking new orders. If you are not a customer yet, you will not be able to buy a new server from us.
Your data will be deleted after 31 December 2026
When we shut down, all servers, files, databases, and backups on our systems will be permanently deleted. We will not be able to restore anything after this date, including on request. Please do not leave this to the last day.
How to Back Up Your Server
We recommend you do this as soon as you can, and then once more close to the shutdown if you are still playing.
- Log in to the panel at panel.obsidianservers.com.
- Make a fresh backup. Open your server, go to the Backups tab, and create a new backup.
- Download it. Download the backup file to your own computer or storage. A backup that only lives on our systems will be deleted with everything else.
- Download your databases if your server uses one (for example, for plugins that store data in MySQL). Export them separately so you have a copy.
- Check the download. Open the archive and make sure your world folders, plugin or mod configs, and any other files you care about are there.
For large servers, you can also download your files directly over SFTP. Our knowledgebase has guides on using SFTP and the file manager.
Once you have your files, you can upload them to any other Minecraft host or run them on your own machine.
Questions and Help
If you need help getting your data out, or you have a question about your account or billing, please open a support ticket. We will help as much as we can right up until the shutdown.
Thank you again for being part of Obsidian Servers.
Shay
